I have two fans, one intake at the bottom front and one exhaust at the back directly below the PSU. Since im using the cpu, athlon xp 2600+, stock HSF, the cpu fan blows air onto the cpu core. so wouldn't that work against the exhaust fan. Would it not be better to have the cpu fan drawing hot air away from the core????

The fan pushing air through the heat sink is more efficient. Also fill in your profile it will help us to help you.

Heat rises...
That would explain why the back fan is were it is... The Fan on your HS blows air onto your in so that the fins are always getting cold air... more efficient!
