I got bored and thought I would try some simple case mod for my first go around.
I have a Raidmax Smilodon Extreme Edition case. I applied Flat Black paint to the interior of the chasis as the stock Gray was UGLY. I then added a 120mm fan to the top of the case. I used a 4x4 piece of drywall patch screen painted black as a barrier. I used a 3/4 hole saw and a 7/16 drill bit to perforate my case. It was fun and took about two hours. One thing though, the fan I bought is getting returned, it is LOUD. Guess I will have to order something quieter... maybe with a speed controller too..... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The smurf tubing I added to the wire harness when I first built the system. And that is a MassCool 92mm HSF I installed a couple months ago. ![]() Woot! According to HWMonitor, at Idle, it brought my Sys Temp down 3C and my CPU temp down 6C to 24C @ 333x9. My Core Temps are the same but my GPU temp is down 6C at 36C. I didn't expect anything there.... interesting. Can't wait to see what happens under load. Running FaH GPU I used to see temps of 45 to 47C, 50C after a few hours, after 30 mins I am at 38C. Prime Blend went from 48C down to 41C. But that was a short test too. I will have to stress things out with some gaming tonight and see what happens. At 4GHz my idle temp is down ~6C at 35C... My Load temp, Prime Blend, is down ~7C at 50C. I wonder what would happen if I turned my rear 120mm fan around to supply air...?

Nice. I did the same with my old silver/blue Smilodon but didn't do as good of a job. I was a Raidmax fan before I bought a Cooler Master. The quality of these cases are significantly higher than that of Raidmax cases. I also love the bottom PSU.
Regardless of that, it looks good.

Thank You... I have started keeping my eye open for summer garage sales, I hope to find an old Tower case to truly mod out.
Update: At 4GHz my idle temp is down ~6C at 35C... My Load temp, Prime Blend, is down ~7C at 50C. After letting FaH GPU and FaH CPU run all night and all day long my temps are CPU 35C and GPU 55C they used to be 45 - 48C CPU and 65 - 70C GPU. That represents an average of a 22% temp drop....

I removed all the components, PSU, MOBO, and Drives.
I removed the HDD cage, and rear fan, its easy. I did not remove anything that was riveted together. Then I masked off the from door and front panel. I lightly sanded the exterior and interior, then wiped them down with rubbing alcohol and lint-free cloth (available at most auto parts stores). I used Krylon Flat Black Enamel paint. I did not paint the MoBo tray or the inside of the side-panel. These two surfaces hide from view. I did paint the interior top and bottom, though, as these are visible. Using spray paint isn't the pro way to do it, but it works. Take your time. Pick a good sunny day, with low humidity. Soak your paint cans in mildly hot water first, that helps make a consistent spray.

Another temp update.
My average-Load temps are down ~12C. Average load being something like 40 - 50% CPU usage.
