To solve the fan problem just mount some aluminum angle what would be the motherboard tray and mount the fans on there. Then cut holes in the cover that match where the fans sit.

Looks sweet though

You are definitely going to want to cut some holes in that top piece that the mobo rests on. Running cables through holes looks SO much better than running them all around the outside and up. Having all the cables running outside will also make it so your lid won't fit on the same.

If the fans were attached to the cover, you could have them all wired to a single molex connector so that it'd only be one connector to remove.

Even when running a system fully open air, you really should have at least one fan to direct air movement across the MB for passively cooled components such as mosfets and southbridges.

My only criticism would be in the optical/HDD areas. I would recommend really fleshing out the details for mounting the devices (ie. add-on rails, or channels in wood, or whatever else). Something like that can bring the build process to a halt when you have to try and rig something up on the fly.

My suggestion would be to just remove the cages from an old garbage case. I actually just recently salvages a mobo tray/backplate and the HDD/optical cages from a case I tossed in the garbage. With a single shelf I built a fully functioning tech station in about 15 minutes since all the mounting holes and fittings and everything else are already in place for you. You just need to build the structure for it.

That is what the grove's in the motherboard tray are for, I prefer they way they look to be honest. There is a fair gap between the centre of the grove and the acrylic cover. I appreciate your input

@ radodrill, I realise the need for fans, I just meant 'like a proper tech station' as in no acrylic cover. Picture three.

@ C-bro, See attached Picture two. The hard drives will rest on racks. The sketchup is not 100% accurate because it was quickly done, to give me a general form of what I want. At the moment I am just going to screw the 5.25" drives to the right side, thanks for the input I'll see about salvaging parts from an old case.

Picture four, I changed from wood to acrylic, I quite like it.

Hi I just want to say that your design is very cool and i like it better with the acrylic as a dust cover

nice sketchup skills too you could maybe upload it to the 3d warehouse for all to see

i like the 4th picture I reckon it would look good it woob but it would look awesome in a smoke black acrylic but it would be difficult

oh and also you could maybe make some handle of some kind on the acrylic cover because the cover would probably catch alot of fingerprints so if you had handles you wouldn't have to wipe off the fingerprints

Thank you. But I didn't draw any of the components, I got them from a website that was posted here on OCN, I cant recall who posted it but thank you
I would use a dark black acrylic but as you said it would be harder to work with. Yes a handle would be a good idea, thanks.

aha; I just can't recall having seen those fans in the first pictures; only in the pics with vents on the sides of the cover.
