Exclamation No cases?

I want to maximize my cooling capabilities while still using air cooling.

right now I have a OZC vendetta CPU cooler, 2 92mm case fans, an 80mm case fan and an 80mm pci fan. I also have a 400mm house fan replacing the side of my case.

Mind you I'm a pretty big modder, and most of those fans aren't attached to the case at all, and are placed in it for direct cooling on things like my GPU.

What I want to know, is if it would be any better, or worse, to not have a case at all and just make stands for all the fans to point at specific targets, I mean, that would be nice for space reasons.

any thoughts?

Test it out and see. I have better temps with my rig having the case. I just direct airflow to specific areas then away and out.

I was hoping to see if someone has tried it and found good or bad temps

Going caseless lowers your temps but draws much more dust. If you want better temps for example your cpu, I'd just mod your HS (add a higher CFM fan+bolt-thru kit maybe?)

Thats good, the temps thing, because I wash my PC in mineral oil once a week to clear it of dust, by simply pouring a gallon on it xD

That would make it easier to clean as well :O

I don't think he's worried about dust. The boxfan he uses as a side panel covers that. I bet if you go caseless and point that fan at it your temps will drop a few c.

Hey,

i had a no-case pc for some time, cause i was modding my case. I had better temps with less fans than i had inside my case with much more fans and also much more noise.
You could create a wind tunnel for your cpu, just put 2 fans on the cooler, and one fan 4 inch in front, and one fan 4 inch behind the cpu cooler.
this was mine at that moment, kinda mess, cause i didnt manage the cables at all...

I'll be putting anti static foam padding on the bottom later today when I get some.

My second rig stays out of it's case because I'm slowly through a mod on it. My temps are about 3-5C cooler all around, but I think the real benefit is that is makes a good conversation piece for friends

Under the MB?
Wouldnt having it on riser allow some ventilation vs a foam pad with none!
