Default Thing to hold the Intel CPU for lapping.

Hi every one, I have already lapped all my water blocks, when I going to lap my CPU I realized I no longer have that plastic holder came from the CPU, so what do I use to hold the CPU while lapping it? Any info will be appreciated.

assumiing its an intel 775/1366 (no barbs) you could use a bit of thin plastic (from packing) and cut it to the size of the cpu, place it over the conections then use some insulating tape the secure its and keep water/metal shavings off the back

dont just tape over the conections tho, when you remove the tape adhesive could be left behind recucing conductivity

Nothing, you dont need anything for that back of it. Just use some rubbing alcohol on the back once your done and its good to go

OP, I'd suggest just taping down sandpaper to a glass surface, holding the CPU heat spreader side down by the edges and just lightly moving it around the sandpaper, moving from coarse to fine grit.

Definitely avoid using that plastic piece.

You want to make sure you can see what your holding on the chip, so you don't try and push the CPU along and apply pressure to a capacitor.

Just as long as you wash off the entire chip with rubbing alcohol when you're done, you should be fine.

I used a folded napkin. Looking back, I should have used electric tape.
