Default HDD Mounting Mod

I have an Antec 1200 case and I have been wanting to change the way I mount my two drives. The case came with a 3x3.5" mounting bay that fit into the 5.25" slots. It looks like it restricts a lot of airflow to me, so I came up with a way to mount my two drives and allow for more airflow around them and to the rest of the case.

Here are the pics, but please post any questions you have!

I used the 1x 5.25" to 3.5" adapter and screwed an old 3.5" floppy mount to the bottom of it... the pics tell the story.

Single 5.25" to 3.5" converter:

3.5" floppy mount (from an old computer that was laying around):

The idea:

Finished with drives:

Comparison (imagine air trying to get around them...):

Test fit in case (the little "ears" that stick out on either side of the upper drive were removed after this pic- see above photos):

I did have to drill and tap an extra set of holes in the side of my case to get it just where I wanted it. Other than that, everything is quite straight forward.

I have about 8 of them around from my own systems and ones I've built for others!

Default I got these.

Saw you at Antec club. That is a very good idea I think, I tried to mount it with the Koolance HD block, too bad it doesn't work out, so I bought these at EBay for 3 bucks, and I painted it.

hmmm...

I was thinking about gutting out an old 5.25" CD-ROM drive and holding(and mounting) a HDD in it.

Good idea? Or not...?

I'm using a Scythe Bay Rafter which works quite nicely for my 3.5in drive in the 5.25in bay. I also have a second one which is a triple 2.5in to 5.25 in bay rafter (3 x 2.5in drives in a single 5.25in bay). Interesting thing, they actually put the fan mount holes on the bottom so you could slap a fan on the bottom of the thing if you wanted extra cooling.

Simple and easy
