http://durafix.com/
there's a video link near the top of the page - its a must see I have already ordered a pound of sticks to try this stuff out! there are also a bunch of videos on you tube, just search Durafix braze and weld aluminum, copper, brass, zinc and other non-ferrous metals, with the setting strength of mild steel this may open a ton of modding doors for me, especially with regards to aluminum, minus the gas MIG setup you can weld a soda can since the durafix melting point is 500 degrees lower than the aluminumcheck it out

I may just get some of this stuff; great for projects where I want to join metals but don't want to have to worry about finishing/painting steel so that it doesn't rust (i.e. use aluminum instead of steel).
The only downside is that the smallest batch is 1lb as I wouldn't go through it that quickly; I bought a package of 3 3ft brass brazing rods a few years ago and still have about 1/2 of that package left over. It'd be really nice if they would have free samples of 2-3 rods.

also the stuff on http://muggyweld.com is pretty awesome for other metals, even steel and stainless steel. I am looking at the SSF-6 and the SSQ paste, which might be great for filling in pits and slag-inclusions in arc welds, prior to finishing work like plating or prime and paint. Might save time instead of tons of grinding and filling with fiberglass filler (pre prime paint) or pre chroming where you can't use fillers other than metals.

[b]Durafix Tests - Day 01[b]
theres the kit from Durafix, very professional packing and customer service can hole in can prep for welding ![]() burned can, as I was not too keen on the "touch", moved on to easier metal an old 1/8" thick scrap... heated and melted the rod into the hole ![]() went back to the can and found the "touch" welded a 90d angle let it cool and clamped on some vice grips for some stress tests, you be the judge... F- STRONG, yes? we bent the alu (1/8" thick) before weld even began crying then we drilled and tapped it tried to pull a 6-32 screw out, there were only 3 threads, didnt budge I slammed it out with a hammer... after this I refilled the hole as if nothing happened THIS STUFF ROCKS! * This Worklog post was generated using WorklogCreator - Version: 1.0.1.6 * Free Download: http://www.mod2software.com/worklogc...logcreator.zip

humm. i used to use silver solder as it bonds to the metals very well but this stuff looks promising.

this stuff is amazing but is strictly for aluminum
they have other similar stuff (silver solder etc) at muggyweld.com, which can be used on ferrous metals as well, but much in the same fashion as this, only diff being that those other thing require flux, this stuff doesnt need flux ![]() aluminum welding, here I come

isn't this brazing? not welding, since there is no electricity involved?

I guess it is a form of brazing, but I dont know if electricity is the key to defining something as "welding", since in all of these things, the key ingredient is heat, whether it comes from electrical arc or a combustion flame, etc - who knows. All I know is this stuff is very cool and I can join aluminum parts without a mig + gas setup
![]() the butt-weld I did was my first and I could probly do it better, and tin the inner seems first, and I bet it would be even stronger than it was. I was able to eventually crack the parts apart from each other, but the molten material section itself never failed or tore, it was more of the stuff separated from one of the parts (thats where the pre tinning would have helped). Either way I bent 1/8" thick aluminum very far, and it wasnt until I made a fulcrum on the V shape against the floor and pressed down with all my weight and strength did the join fail. That to me says this stuff is perfectly fine for pc related mods/structures etc.

Yellow can - mapp gas no? I always thought you used mapp for sweating copper plumbing connections together. Can these sticks be used for copper as well?
And wow. That stuff is hella strong.
