sorry for noob question but do you get round ide cables??? hmm will ask around tomm.. lol
hmm and the ide cables shipped with my asus are a little difficult to cut.. i mean the wires look a loot thinner than normal ide cables..
i had done this round cable thingy around two years ago.. when i found out that the cables shipped with the mobo were already like they were cut.. lol..
so i just rounded em up and i used a a thread to tie it up!! lol

you can buy rounded IDE cables pre-made, or you can do what Archer outlined above. Making them yourself is much cheaper.

Sounds like you might have damaged a cable. Do you have a spare cable to test this out?

Either that, or you hooked up your IDE devices in a different configuration than before, and your BIOS got confused when it tried to order a boot sequence. Go into your bios and make sure that your hard drive is the primary boot device, not floppy or cdrom or anything else that might get in the way of your precious OS.

Also, has anybody else just gotten by with simply seperting the wires and then twisting them lots until they are almost round? It shortens the wire significantly (can be helpful in mid-tower or smaller cases) and doesn't detract as much from teh prettifulness of the case.

my cables are waaay thinner. It's near impossible to do without exposing wire. I noticed that the cable connecting my floppy is like the pictures in the thread. Very easy to do. What gives?

EDIT: oh...the thinner cables are used for HDD, the big ones in this guide for floppy, CDROM etc.

doh!

Another option for the new cables is to fold them instead of cutting them.

Something like this
