Whats wrong with rustoleum? I just finished a whole paint project using rustoleum. I also like duplicolor, primarily because of the easier spraying design that saves paint and also helps it stop getting all over your finger. Heres my finished case, done with 90% rustoleum(HD Cage done with duplicolor).

That looks very clean. Job well done. So, did you do what the guys in this thread suggested?
Rough up the case with sandpaper or Scotchbrite pad (which one is preferable?) Apply primer (which brand is preferable?) Apply paint (the type CattleRustler said and the one you (AMDRick) used looks nice and glossy, which is what I'm looking for) Sounds about right?

I would start by using 600 grit sandpaper to rough it up a bit, its not necessary though. Get 1 can of Krylon Primer and apply as many coats as you can until you run out of paint. (Get your money's worth) Then get some gloss black paint and apply coats until you run out (to get your money's worth) If you want to spend some extra money, get clear too.

As much coats as possible = better? Isn't there a point where it's too much? I wouldn't mind finishing a can (as opposed to having half a can of primer sitting in my room forever).

i just did the inside of my case with flat black duplicolor. i LOVE their spray nozzels, soo much easier on the finger than normal spray cans. i did my interior with flat black, though im starting to think i should've gone with a semi-gloss. but its got a nice military look to it

More coats CAN be better. if you apply one coat after the other the one before it has not had enough time to cure, and it will take ALOOTTTT longer. trust me. I sprayed way to heavy on my one HD Cage and it still wasnt dry after 1 week. I sanded it down, redid it, and now its looking good(I also baked it).
My advice would be(I am only 15, if anyone else here knows more and sees I said something that was wrong, correct me) #1, Dont rush. I screwed up by hurrying and ruined a panel, and had to redue, meaning I lost about 30% of a can of paint. I let my case cure for roughly 2 WEEKS. Many say 2 days, I wouldn't risk it myself. Do you case first so you can get you components back in, then you can do the panels last as they are not "necessary". What I did for sidepanels and exterior of case What I did was 220grit sanding. To the point of where some areas are light and the metal is almost seeable. Then I cleaned the surface with soap and water and then mineral spirits. Try to not get your fingerprints on it, or wear gloves, as they have oil on them. I then primered 3 layers, on the last layer sanding out any imperfections using 500grit.(Light sand). I then allowed it to cure for 2 days and then painted 3 coats, allowing the first to dry for 48 hours and then wet sanded it using 1000 grit(lightly). Then applied the second coat, allowing it to cure for 48 hours, then I wet sanded using 1500 grit and after that I applied the last layer of paint, and did not wetsand. Allowed to cure for 1 week. For inside of case, I lightly sanded with 220grit, then primered 2-3 layers and then about 5 very very light layers. Did not wetsand. I have not used scothbrites so I cannot recommend or say they are bad.

I would like to paint the inside of my panels too. Great advice Rick, I'll keep it in mind. Since the project might be long, I think I will undertake it during the Christmas holidays, so I'll gather up as much info as possible until then.

Have you checked out any of the guides here on OCN for case painting?
Here is one and here is another. You don't really need to worry too much about the priming, you could probably get away with like 2 coats. Also, gloss finish... yeah, don't do it. It's a nightmare... keeping fingerprints off it is almost impossible, and I don't even think it looks as good as flat black.
