Hi,

Just another layout idea for a 2010

Still undecided on the watercooling setup though. Lower compartment is huge, especially if you move the PSU behind the top optical drive, but the height isn't ideal for common big radiators. It'll fit dual 80mm rads vertically which is interesting in terms of rad density.

But since you don't use as many drives as I do, I doubt you'll follow this path

PS: you'll never find a top for the 2010 for the simple reason this chassis is made of 2 L shaped halves rivetted together, and I doubt they'll start selling half chassis as top replacements

^^ WOW - that right up looks good - im going and reading it all now - thanks

Interesting on the rads....i would think that 80mm fans on the rads would be far too noisy though?

havning looked at my case again - your right about the L shaped parts.....

How/where are you going to more the PSU to/how?

Im guessing form your sketches that you are custom making the HDD racks?

What prog are those models made in? 3dsmax?

6 dual 80s shouldn't be any noisier than an equivalent surface/depth/fpi 140mm fan rad .... as long as I don't use any 80mm fans
The idea on this version was to use 3x180mm fans to blow through the 6 dual 80s ...

Mine's nearly all taken appart, sitting on my bed right now
That's probably why I'm still up @5:50am

There's just enough space behind the optical drive for the PSU. there would be some clearance above wider motherboards but not enough for say, RAM sticks.
Case width might end up being a bit of a problem on this one though, I ordered an angled power cord (precious mm) to route all the way back to the rear of the chassis. But the wire loom sticking out of my non-modular PSU might end up being a little thick as well. Worse case scenario I can always make the wires come out from the adjacent side (above the DVD drive).

Yes the HDD racks will be custom made to my specifications. Inspired from the PC-A70F drive cages ... only better
nb: the only reason this setup "works" is because of the 16mm billet aluminium bezel inside which I'm planning to mount the 2x140mm intake. Without this bezel the fans would need to go at least 10mm further in the case and wouldn't allow clearance for very long video cards such as the 5870.
By the way, can't wait to see how long the 59xx will be. From the pics I saw it didn't look an awful lot longer than the 5870.

This is done in solidworks 2k9

Hopefully that screen can help you picture the PSU and 80mm rads story a little better;

thanks for that - go get some sleep (i just had a nice 4hr nap - its 5pm here lol....

i just had a very quick look and couldnt find any 180mm fans in Australia.....i'll have a nother look later - pitt you cannot fit 200mm fans (5mm too big )
EDIT: actually - i have found 3 for around $20(AUD) - all silverstone branded......how are you going to attach them to the rads?
because 80+80 = 160 not 180.....

You wouldn't be able to fit 3x200mm though.

the 180mm I saw are silverstone, I checked the where to buy on their website and found a few shops in australia.
like this for instance:

Haven't designed the mounting for that yet but I'd be leaving a 25mm gap or so between fans and rad. Should be enough for a custom shroud
