Default Coolermaster HAF 932 Mod Questions?

Alright so I plan on modding my HAF 932 when it gets here and I have a few questions on some minor details...

I plan on spray painting the interior of the case black...

Alright so I decided to buy primer. Now I was wondering what kind of sandpaper to use, and when to use it exactly?

Like before I apply the primer, use sandpaper right?
at all after that?

I have 2 types of paint so far

Krylon 1613 Semi Flat Black - is this a good paint to use for this?
Krylon 1301 Crystal Clear Gloss- is this acceptable for the clear coat?

Also I plan on doing a few LED mods and would like some clarification

These are the blue led's that I plan on using

LED Color : BLUE

Size (mm) : 5mm T1 3/4
Lens Color : Water Clear
Forward Voltage (V) : 1.8 ~ 2.2
Reverse Current (uA) : <=30
Luminous Intensity Typ Iv (mcd) : Average in 8000 MCD
Max Power Dissipation : 80mw
Max Continuous Forward Current : 30mA
Max Peak Forward Current : 75mA

I plan on modding the 3 230mm fans that come with the HAF so that they are all blue.

I have 470ohm resistors for every LED is this the right resistance?

I plan on wiring them as follows. Longer Leg > Resistor > 12v line on a molex connector. Shorter Leg > GND LINE on molex. Where there will be 4 LED's per molex connector. (per fan)

Is this the proper way to do that?

Thanks for any help, and I will be sure to post pictures when the final product is finished

if you're painting your haf, you should really consider drilling out the rivets and taking it apart. you'll get a much better paint job that way. i dont know what kind of experience you have with a cordless drill but all you basiclly do is go up to home depot and pick up a 1/8th metal drill bit and just stick it in the middle of the rivet and push down.

i used primer. i dont know what it would look like if i didnt but i used it. i used a very dark duplicolor i got from strauss auto. that flat black paint with the high gloss clear will give you a glossy look i believe. im not sure if thats what you intend to do just a heads up.

i'm not too keen on leds so someone step in here if i'm wrong.

i just ran it through an led calc and i believe you're going to need a 110 ohm resistor if you run each fan in series. this means

yellow pin (12v+)>+led leg>-led leg>+led leg>-led leg>+led leg>-led leg>+led leg>-led leg>110 ohm resistor>black pin(ground)

i dont really know where you got the 470ohm resistor from but like i said im not that good with that kind of stuff.

Each LED running off the 12v line, not in a series... so it has to resist 12v-(1.8~2.2) / .03 Amps

Is how I got some random number... the leds I bought come with 50 free 470 ohm resistors for use with 12v applications like this

EDIT: I decided to use primer check main post.

Also I do want the clear coat, I plan on using the led's and I figure the clear coat will make the leds reflect a lot better

For specific ideas with the HAF 932, check out the HAF 932/922 Owners Club in my signature - you'll find all sorts of solutions that people have come up with for their 932s.

As for the LED sizing, a 2.2V Forward Voltage, 30mA single LED hooked direct to 12V by itself would be 330 ohm according to an online calculator I like to use for LED sizing. 390 ohm at 1.8V so the 470 would just be bit of overkill. Using the calculator, you would get 470 ohm if you went with 1.8V, 25mA with a 12V feed so those should work fine for what you are doing. If anything they will dim your LEDs a little.

That calculator is HERE and works really good for single, multiple, series and parallel designs to give you the resistor sizes you would need.

Yeh, I spent a few hours going through those. I will definitely post up a work log when I get started (tomorrow probably).

Thanks for the help guys. It should come out pretty sick looking, and someone had an idea for putting led's in the vents so the blue light would shine out. I think I will give it a try, I will post results for sure
