Default Wiring Military Switch to Cold Cathodes

I'm thinking of getting some of these toggle/military switches http://www.mnpctech.com/Case_Mod_Toggle_Switch.html (the 2 pin ones)for a new case im going to be working on. They are going to be controlling some cold cathode lights. The problem is i have no idea how to wire them so they can turn them on and off, like what wire to put on it.

Also, when i needed to extend wires for fans before i just twisted wires together and put electrical tape on them, (I know that's not the way to do it) but would it be good to buy a soldering gun and solder the wires together for a better fit?

Any help is appreciated!

That switch can be installed in place of the supplied PCI-bracket switch that's in the stock wiring harness. In other words, the switch is in line with the +12V supply to the CCFL inverter.

In terms of the wiring, I strongly recommend using soldering and insulating with heatshrink. Though you really don't need a soldering gun, a simple soldering iron is more than sufficient for most soldering.

So i take the two wires that were on the switch on the pci bracket and place one wire on one pin and the other wire on the other one? Another thought, could i run one of the wires from the mobo connector from the power switch to the toggle switch so the computer will only start if the toggle switch is in the on position?

You could interrupt the lead from the front panel power switch to accomplish that.

Correct

You could wire up a toggle switch in series with the existing momentary switch; so that you have to throw the toggle before the momentary switch can be used to turn on the PC. In essence, the one lead of the PWR switch header on the MB would be wired up to one side of the toggle, then the other side of the toggle to one side of the momentary, then the other side of the momentary to the other lead on the MB PWR switch header.

yes you could run the mobo switch off it also you could run the mobo switch through all four if you wanted to and make it so the computer only turns on if they are in the proper sequence with proper modding

I got my switches today and they sent me the 3 screw terminal switch http://www.mnpctech.com/Case_Mod_Toggle_Switch.html instead of the 2 screw terminal. The screws are labeled 1 2 and 3 on the back, and I'm not sure where to attach the wires to. Do i attach the wire to the terminals on the end and don't attach anything to the center terminal? Also, the switch is on/off/on, do both the on parts do the same thing, or is there something different it does because of the 3 terminal part?

Sorry if this is an easy question, this is my first time wiring anything. Thank you for any help!

Center is common and the other 2 terminals are for the 2 on positions; so you'd have to use the center terminal and one of the other 2.

My suggestion would be to pick up a cheap crimping tool and use heat-shrink connectors to introduce the switch into your light's circuit.

Many 12v goodies can be found in the boat store!
Crimping tool:

Heat Shrink Butt-Connectors: You'll want the blue ones for 14 and 16 guage wires.

You'll want some ring terminals for the connection to the switch:

You may also want to consider some heat-shrink tubing:

Finally, you'll need two 16 guage wires to make the extension to the switch.

You'll want to attach ring terminals to one end of the wires, and butt-connectors to the other. (don't shrink anything yet!)

You just need to cut one of the wires in whichever power lead you're going to use for the lights. Then attach your butt-connectors to the severed ends.

Now you just need to attach the ring terminals to the screws on the switch.
