Default Scratch Build (but don't get too excited)

This isnt a worklog, yet.

This has been in the works for a long, long, long time - some of you may remember I had a similar post a couple of months back. But I've been promised a Dremel for Christmas, I've got my sig rig to put in it, and an H-50 soon. I've got some questions at the end and am looking for any suggestions or opinions at all. I'll consider everything you say because I want this case to be perfect. Now here's the good bit.

Total Dimensions (Excluding feet): 354mm(h) x 422mm(d) x 346mm(w).

Overall View

Front View - Stealthed DVD-rom Drive, 4x 120mm fans

Side View - Funny Shaped Window

Top View - 25mm Fan, 2 Fan Speed Controllers, Power Button

Internal View - (Colour changed for visibility, it's impossible to see detail when it's black.)

Components View

Alternate Colours -

Just a few questions:
  • In terms of chosing a Dremel, I seem to only need 2 guides - Rotary and Edge. Some hole-saw pieces for small holes, but what sort of cutting bits do I need? I'm pretty clueless here (Also how would I go about cutting the DVD-rom drive slot on the front of the cover, it's the only thing I cant work out at the moment!).
  • Does anyone know a good place to buy acrylic and glue in the UK?
  • My side panels will be removable through means of 4 thumbscrews:

But how can I tap those screws into the acrylic block behind? Perhaps drill a hole through it and glue a nut into the block?
  • I don't like the way I've got my power button and fan control knobs. They just dont seem to fit. Anyone have any ideas, I just want to make them as stealthed and inobtrusive as possible really.
  • What colour? My original intention is 90%opaque-black/transparent windows, with blue lighting, though the white/bright-blue looks kinda funky but a bit Mac-y

Ok, that's all my questions for now. I'm sitting here trigger-happy on my rep button Absolutely any opinions are welcome!

I can post more pics of different parts/colours on request.

so it's going to be a straight air cooling machine? thats one sick design! just for kicks you should throw in a random red CCFL, one that beats to music =D. but yea. Black all around with tinted side windows IMO and a nice showcase of blue will look absolutely stunning, and that top fan COULD be red...now that would look killer.

It's all air, yep, except the Corsair H50. Though 2x 2.120mm rads could easy be mounted on the front. I like the sound of a red top fan, that could look pretty cool I should mention there are LED-lit clear acrylic feet on the base too.

wow that's an amazing case design! Id defiantly go with the black case/blue lights.

you could always try putting the power and fan controls on the underside of the case if its going to be on a desk and have some small arrows showing where they are, that would be pretty unobtrusive :P or have a touch pad on it somewhere..something like the ps3 power button - that might be a bit impossible though lol.

edit- this case is so awesome it needs a mini disco ball in it with LED's pointed at it. that would be epic.

Amazing design, I wish I had that kind of know how! I agree with the black case/blue lights comment, but red would be awesome as well

I might try that, the switches on the bottom. I was wondering... is it possible to use a momentary switch to toggle a fan voltage from 12V to 7V. The molex cables have 2 grounds, a 12V and a 5V cable. If I set it up in one position to connect 12V to 5V and to connect 12V to ground in the other position would this work?

I dont really Google sketchup is easy to learn, and I have some DIY experience I suppose.

I think you're right with the colours. I might try some sound reactive red cathodes in the top though or something.

Or there's this:
