the cardboard is a good idea...just like in metal fabrication....everything should work out fine i think

With some extra wiring you might be able to get all of the rigs running off of just one heavy duty PSU. I have got 2 rigs running from 1 PSU as a test and it seems to be working fine and it is only a generic PSU. The power needed is not all that great given there is no vid card chewing most of the grunt.

All I did was branch the 20-4 pin with another 20-4 pin socket and that gave me 2 x 20-4 pin sockets from one psu. Both rigs turn on from 1 switch also and have not had any issues yet. They have been up for a week now and I would surely have to be saving a little money on my power bill. It it pretty easy to stuff it up with all the wires but I just had a diagram I found on the net somewhere and away I went, easy and it worked for me.

I have definately not done a very good job of what I did, crazy wires everywhere as I had to extend them but with a little bit of tape it could be made to look practical and nice.

The PSU doesn't know what it is running; it will just do what it can and give as much power as it can, you could calculate how much power a rig really needs to just function on full load and work it out from there.

Considering most PSUs can fire off a Vcard and at least 4 molexed devices that makes good sense to me--these will be low draw rigs for sure--I might have to get a little creative with the power switch--but even using 2 instead of 4 would be great!

Okay the wife misplaced the digital camers (it's always the wife) so pics will happen later--despite the storms overhead I went out and set up the shop in the backyard and got the preliminary woodwaork done--got the sides rebated and trued-up and made up the corner posts from the Ipe--that's it...Have to go over to the lake to some fancy restaurant for Easter supper...so maybe tonight I can glue up the box. A microATX is 9.6 by 9.6 the panels are 14 by 13 so that should be good--more later

Well I might use them too--I have not yet decided what's going in the box--I just know once I make the box it'll be a lot easier to visualise how the parts fit--right now there is about 4.5" after the mobo is in place so that would fit a PSU and since the width is about 12" wide inside I should have plenty of room to attach a HDD to the mobo tray.

Couple of things crossed my mind--I'm headed out to start gluing the box together--but when I get back I want to find out where to get some extra 20/24 pin plugs and the little metal bits that crimp onto the wires--I want to do this right so I figure I'll make up the power cabling from scratch/sheath it etc. I bet a pair of 600 watt Seasonics would be overkill--might be able to get away with even less power...going to do some research and try to determine how much a microATX with onboard video draws...well off to work.

Hey I got some movies...lol as I could not locate the dang camera anywhere. The panels are left over from some boat work--a top and bottom layer of3mm Okume marine ply (1/8" aprox) sandwiches a hexcell core material to make a sound absorbent, lightweight, strong panel that will hold up to outdoor conditions and is quite bouyant. In the event of extreme global warming I will be able to float away on Crunch....

Anyway on that composite panel I laminated 5/16" thick strips of teak and wenge with epoxy--this was monthes ago before the move. Today I rebated the panels to accept the corner post stock I milled on the tablesaw from some scrap Ipe. Not having any epoxy handy I used some decent wood glue, brads and clamps to smack it together.

Before all of this I trued up the panels and sanded them down before asembly to make it all go a little smoother later.

What's left to do is after it's good and dry is to cap off the raw ends of the panels with some more scrap Ipe and to sand down everything and give it a lick of Polyurethane. Then I have a top piece which needs a quick upholstering--no biggy the air stapler makes it a snap. and the box part is ready for the first mobo/HDD tray.

Then the metal work will start--4 pieces will need to be mounted to the interior--then removed and drilled and tapped for standoffs etc etc. I'm making the movie now--just trying to edit it a little.

Using one of these might get you out of some room troubles, by the looks of things you can mount a motherboard on it so you could have a rig above another. This could work well as there is going to be no pci card in use and could be very low, as low as the HSF, very low if you wanted to water cool the whole rig with 90 degree bends from the block.

That is another thing altogether there and am getting ahead of the project

Could be one very highly overclocked folding rig for maximum WU's
