Still runs a little warm--could be that 820. I get 56 under load with that 2.8 OCed up to 3.2--of course it is also an outdoor computer and the ambients are high during the noontime. Must be close to 90 F out there. In comparison a bareback mobo with an 805 cranked to 3.18 using a CM LGA775 heatpipe cooler is running at 52 C under load. The 805s on the same mobo in Crunch are running Zalmans like the 820 and they average 51 (Crunch2) and 43--if Crunch were a little better at cooling both boards I reckon I could expect 43 for both. So the little black box runs kinda hot still--I will need to bore that hole in the front panel and get some air in there...

The Odd Mod

The 8xx series do produce a lot of heat. In the Tomshardware artice (just for reference: http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/05/...res/index.html) the D805 started throttling at 4.0GHz, and that was with the Zalman 9500 cooler!
Here are the temps Tomshardware had while overclocking that little oven: Pentium D 805 Zalman Cooler CPU Clock - Load - Idle Mode 4.10 GHz - crash - 52 °C 4.00 GHz - 80 °C - 49 °C 3.80 GHz - 76 °C - 47 °C 3.60 GHz - 74 °C - 46 °C 3.32 GHz - 71 °C - 46 °C 2.66 GHz - 64 °C - 44 °C Given that, your temps are not bad at all. It also seems that Tomshardware had some issues to get that Zalman to work properly, just like you had in the beginning.

It needs lapping--and I need some wet and dry paper to do it...maybe later on.
The duct is a great idea--I was considering stuffing my other Nidec Beta V 120 X 38 in there--it pushes 125 CFM and is keeping my water cooled rig (WaterClocker) at a steady 48 even though I am running 1.55 Vcore on that 3.0e Prescott and pushing it to 3.8 Folding. Those Nidecs are super loud, and if they are mounted without a filter they make a grating nattering sound as they shred the air. First the hole--I will try to get it more in the center of the front panel--if that doesn't produce the results then more CFM might. Drilling a big hole will mean taking everything out again--so I have to wait until the proper moment--it gets kinda crazy around here during the day, hence my nocturnal modding...LOL

Looking good, CyberD!
I have an idea, though... (lol hurry, close the browser window while you can ) Anyway, for that blue fan just kinda chillin in the middle, what if you were to make an inlet on the side of the case much like the ones on supercars to cool the brakes? It might require some welding, but I think it would look cool. I'm not talking about a vent like the other one, but something that directs air flow like an air intake. I dunno... just an idea.
