Yes you can make a decent starting salary as a programmer/analyst anywhere from $45,000 to $48,000 starting salary. But to make over a 100k you would need to diversify into managerial or architecture.
__________________While most of the programming work of late is going overseas due to cheaper labor we still need to have people here at home who can work with the end users, lead requirement sessions drive joint application development sessions and trouble shoot during full deployment and testing. How do I know this? I worked for KPMG Consulting/ BearingPoint for 8 years, LHS communications systems for 5 years and currently work for a fortune 100 company in the US. I started out programming and now Manage programmers/Analysts.

Nah SDumper. False.

They simply cannot find enough C++ developers who REALLY know their ****. Starting is 80k, benefites, 25k bonus, and 750 stock options.. roughly 27k. Not a bad deal for your first job out of college. Promotion to level 2 ==> 140k to 160k base salary. Like I said above, you need to know your stuff - and most people, unfortunately, do not.

Ya, I'm an incoming freshman at Texas Tech and will be studying CS with a minor in Mathematics. From what I understand a programmer / IT will get about $40 - $50k starting.
