Yes you can make a decent starting salary as a programmer/analyst anywhere from $45,000 to $48,000 starting salary. But to make over a 100k you would need to diversify into managerial or architecture.

While most of the programming work of late is going overseas due to cheaper labor we still need to have people here at home who can work with the end users, lead requirement sessions drive joint application development sessions and trouble shoot during full deployment and testing.

How do I know this? I worked for KPMG Consulting/ BearingPoint for 8 years, LHS communications systems for 5 years and currently work for a fortune 100 company in the US. I started out programming and now Manage programmers/Analysts.

Nah SDumper. False.

I work in the software development industry, for a MAJOR MAJOR software company (trust me, you've heard of them).

They simply cannot find enough C++ developers who REALLY know their ****. Starting is 80k, benefites, 25k bonus, and 750 stock options.. roughly 27k.

Not a bad deal for your first job out of college. Promotion to level 2 ==> 140k to 160k base salary.

Like I said above, you need to know your stuff - and most people, unfortunately, do not.

And what part of what I stated is false I speak from many years of experience and while a few small shops might pay as you stated I can assure you that it is not many.

Ya, I'm an incoming freshman at Texas Tech and will be studying CS with a minor in Mathematics. From what I understand a programmer / IT will get about $40 - $50k starting.

Which is a very solid salary. You will make much more over the years but at some point you will max out what you can make as a programmer/analyst and at that point you will want to move up into managerial/design duties so that you can continue to maximize your earning potential.
