Default Need Some Advice about Web Hosting

I just bought a domain name (woohoo...) and am looking for some advice about webhosting as I want to mount a simple e-commerce capable site.

Are there some affordable and reliable services I should know about?

The only time I have done this in the past is through Yahoo...and they pretty much walk you through the process...I really have no clue how best to approach this project...I just need to figure out who to go with.

At this point I have a registered domain and a registration code the registrar provided...I am assuming the first step is to find a web host so I can start uploading files and content to a barebones page....

Help with this is much appreciated

for the cheap, most use go daddy.

personally I like and use Lunarpages.com Not a single day of down time in 4 years. And I am consistantly getting emails about updates they do (hardware/software)

i like them!

oh ya.....about e-commerce.

are you just wanting to do a simple paypal site or something a bit more complicated, like using a credit card service and seperate banking commerce.?

and do you want to build the site yourself or use a template??

A site I maintain for a guys small business, uses yahoo for hosting, but I designed the site and it uses paypal for payment.

PayPal is cool--a template would be a good start for me since I don't have a lot of time--so if I go to LunarPages.com will I be able to get started using the domain I registered and the code the Registrar porvided?

Thanks for the help!

No Probs...I can use all the input/help I can get

I just took a look at LunarPages and all the webhosting options seem to assume you will also need to buy a domain too...I kinda wish I had waited to register with a site like LunarPages or Go Daddy instead of just buying a domain without any support from Melbourne IT...oh well.

I guess I could just get the dot net name and somehow redirect from the dot com...

Wish I knew a bit more about this...

the place you bought the domain from doesnt offer hosting? I would bet that lunarpages will host and hook up your current DNS (domain Name Server) for you. my work uses Network Solutions too....but a bit more expensive.

If your not in a rush, I could be a bit more help tomorrow, gotta go to bed now, and get ready for work in the morning! woot!

Thanks for te offer--I tried linarpages and they will take over the domanin registration but they are kinda pricey. I went with GoDaddy and am kicking myself for not having bought the domain with them in the first place--as I now must wait for the transfer. I paid like 6 times to Nelbourne IT just for the Domain for what GoDaddy charged just for the name--I coulda got the whole enchilada and made it a lot easier...lol. Setch a N00b.

I'm off to bed too.

I am with "Webkoreserver", they do nice budget plans, i am on the lowest, and they offer free auto-installers for mainstream shopping-center and e-commerce programs!

Well this is frustrating....the transfer is still pending--in exactly the same mode as last night...I have a feeling I should have gotten the domain and the host at the same time...I guess I will have to call suppport if I see no change by this PM...live and learn. Tried to use one of the crappy templates and got nowhere with it...more stuff to learn lol. Sheesh. Now I know why people pay people to do this stuff....
