What the CRAP is going on here? All I wanted to do was update to my new Vista rig.
This is a version of 2k5 I got of MSDN Student Alliance. Works great on Xp. Look at this crap on Vista. ![]() I installed and run as administrator, btw.

Did you install the VS2005 service pack, and the Vista Patch?

I'm useing Vista x64 and don't have such problems. Though after installing each of the Visual Studio applications individually I used Microsoft update to download all the latest updates and patches. If I were you I'd uninstall it, reinstall it and then download the updates before trying to run any of the programs.

Yeah, I ran the updater after I installed everything.
However, I used the windows updater to bring everything to SP1 + Vista SP1. I did not actually download the files from MS. This is so strange, I have a very similar issue with MS Office 2007, where it loads without any menus or anything sometimes. Or other times, with PowerPoint, it OPENS Powerpoint and gives me an error that it cant read the Powerpoint.exe (as if its trying to open the file as a powerpoint file). Ugh....how annoying. I think I may just reformat, install EVERY vista patch to date, then install VS2k5 and MSoffice2k7

I'd strongly recommend using 2k5 with xp until 2k7 is released unless absolutely necessary.

vista is terrible for studio, stick w/ XP.
Not sure about Orcas tho, it might have better Vista integration. Only ran it on XP.

Interestingly enough, I got it fixed on 2k5 but NOT Orcas (2008 Visual Studio, yep they changed the name from 2007 to 2008.lol).
Anyhow, I had to go to my XP machine, go into My Documents/Visual Studio/Settings and copy that folder. I deleted the version on my PC (vista PC) and pasted it into the same place. Fixed. =P However, go fig. The VISTA NATIVE Visual Studio DOESNT work. =P

While it is still in beta, they are allowed a few bugs. But if the 2007/2008 IDE comes out as an absolute memory hog like 2005, I will not be happy.
I need to get around to trying our Orcas. MSDN subscriptions FTW!
