Shouldn't SQL syntax be universal. Just... different databases have different features, right?

Looks like you need the word "modify" in there. And it looks like the table name comes before the constraint name.

I see what I did wrong. .. Im an idiot. . last time I delcared it not null @ the table/column creation. now that Im adding it in afterwards I have to use that format. . . I modeled it off of the PK syntax instead. . . I havent double checked yet but I just looked it up in the chapter again . . .I dunno how I missed that. +REP

If the SQL server program you're using is ANSI compliant, then data manipulation commands (select, insert, update, delete) should be pretty much the same. But each flavor of SQL throws its little spin on things because of those different features. Once you know one version, though, it's pretty easy to figure out other versions.
