Create a list somewhere on your worksheet of all allowed values.
Go to: Data -> Validation.
Select "List"
The go to source and enter the list cells that you created.
Select the otehr tabs to change the messages you want to create.
Hit Ok.

I like to have validation lists apart from my main spreadsheet... I put it in BA1:BA3



Select the range of cells you want to apply the validation to... H7:H30 (I actually went further to H7:H40)



Select DATA, then VALIDATION



Under the SETTINGS tab, choose LIST under "Allow"

Enter =$BA$1:$BA$3 in the "Source" box (this is where Excel will restrict what gets put into H7:H40)



That's it... you can select whatever you want from the dropdown list in cells H7:H40, and if you try and type something else in there you get an error message
