I have a mostly java/c++ background; my html skills are VERY basic, and i've never worked with a scripting language before. Initially, I will be using it to work with Watir. If anyone know of a good/clear/easy to read but not dumbed down reference book, I'd very much appreciate your advice!

I personally don't know the ruby language, but asked a couple of my admins here and they stated the 2 books below are good. Said they will give you a ton of information... If you need more recommendations, let me know

my local library has both of those- I'll check 'em out and perhaps buy one if I like it.

that should give you plenty to read up on. This guide should also help you see the differences/similarities in ruby compared to other languages. Scripting languages are fun. I like ruby, still not as much a perl, but its growing on me.

Best of all, they're free! Look under the Web Development, then there's a new section for Ruby they just added awhile back.
