Default C++ Thread Synchronization

In my Systems class we touched on concurrency but did not discuss any synchronization methods other than mutexes and sephamores. The POSIX threads implementation of mutexes is unacceptably expensive for my current project, so I was wondering if anybody who has real coding experience could weigh in with some better thread sync methods. I was thinking about using signals, but I don't know how signals interact with threads as opposed to processes.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Hi
Try the Boost Thread and / or Interprocess libraries
