Ok, this is a big shot in the dark (lol) BUT someone suggested I try this.
I have a Nvidia 7600GT GPU and USPS broke two of the ram modules off of it. Someone said that a new BIOS could be programmed for it that only used the other two ram channels, and of course in turn cutting the ram in half. I have no clue on programming so I'm wondering if any of you really intelligent code writers can help me out or direct me elsewhere, lol. I have pics of said broken card if you'd like to see them. Thanks for any and all help guys. ![]()

that sounds like a LOT of work. why dont you just have USPS replace your card.

I would just buy a new one.. instead of going through all these trouble for a 7600 gt.. you could get a 9600gt for 150$ on newegg.. and its nearly 2-3 times faster than the 7600gt.
The 9600 GT is kinda faster than my previous 7950 gx2.

Well, the card was donated by a guy on OCN. So I'm not out any $$$ from USPS. He said he wasn't going to worry about getting it refunded by USPS b/c he was just giving it away anyway.
Someone had suggested trying this. I didn't (and still don't) have a clue on how easy or difficult it would be. Just figured I'd ask anyway, nothing gained nothing lost eh? It's not vital, I was just wondering. ![]()

Are you sure two RAM modules got knocked off? Cause... it's near impossible to "just knock off" RAM modules!!!!

Theres a very large probability that says the hardware doesn't support just disabling RAM channels. Additionally i don't see anyone here doing it.

ROFL!
It was probably the guy who sent it to you that did it. It's kind of hard to take of RAM while it's inside a box.

Hmm, I _MIGHT_ be able to get that card working for you. Its been a while since I worked with a VGA BIOS so I'd have to try and either find out or figure out the commands for this GPU, and there might be some hardware limitations, so I can't make any promises but feel free to PM me.
I'd actually bet money that screwing with the bios won't do anything because of the hardware requiring the chips to be there, but I can try. I might be able to circumvent the hardware through other means. Shorting certain pins where those chips should be maybe.
