For all of you students out there- microsoft will hook you up with free copies of a ton of EXPENSIVE software (full visual studio is $1k+) if you can verify that you're a student at a university in the US or a few other countries.

If your institution isn't on the list, US students can be verified through journeyed:

basically, add the $0 item to your cart and check out; you will then have the option of getting verified. They will then email you the stuff you need to download the software.

I'm not the world's biggest Microsoft fan, but this is a pretty incredible offering. (Yes, I realize that they're just trying to get future developers hooked on their products.) Some of this stuff really has no substitute; for example, there is no 100% functional, fully featured .net or C# support from any non-Microsoft development environment.

This is rather old news, but I think that it could be very valuable to a great many people on this forum. I will try to keep this thread updated, and I will give it a more classy/permanent format as soon as I get out of this %@$* "computer organization" class.

I'm sure that there's lots of you guys that already have this stuff or have other special deals or w/e, but this is a free, legal way to get some really expensive tools that is available to a large number of people.

I will for free stuff haha- anyone who steals my identity will be very disappointed in my credit and bank account :P

Seriously though, I understand that giving out your SS to a semi-sketchy will be concerning to people. I will either post a link to a list of schools that let you register with your student#, or I will create one here and keep it updated as more schools participate. I'm concerned that it might get a little long, though.
