Default Game Maker-Like Compiler?

I'm looking for a simple compiler that has drawing functions similar to that of Game Maker, but without having massive limitations in every single way like Game Maker. Something i can code quickly in for a project i want to work on. Anyone know of something like that? Might have to just grab XNA and read through some tutorials.

XNA, SDL , Irrlicht

SDL for 2D and Irrlicht for 2D or 3D. XNA is great and all, but it is restricted to a Windows environment, which I feel makes it very limited.

Another option is Pygame. It is a python implementation of SDL and is very easy to learn and use.

Keep in mind you are going to need C#, Python, C/C++, or Java experience to really take advantage of any of these libraries.

I don't know what you mean by C# being limited considering it also supports unmanaged code, which is the only thing that really limits it to begin with.

Will look into this, thanks for the suggestions.

I highly suggest SDL. Its easy to use and can be very powerful if you use it in the right way. Supports OpenGL too.

Im using SDL as my window and input manager while using OpenGL for rendering.

I meant it is limited by the fact that it is Windows only. I don't know how I ended up wording it like that. I guess it was because it was before my 3 cups of coffee I'll edit the post to make sense.

Well to be fair it's Windows and Xbox360 only. I'm not a supporter of Unix/Linux/OSX so i'm not particularly bothered. Not that i wouldn't help people emulate my apps on other OS, but i won't go too far out of my way. In light of that i really don't care about the 360 either.

Or we could just say Microsoft only

I'm a fan of both Windows and Linux, although being a developer, I like to be able to know exactly how things work when I use them, so that makes my development platform of choice Linux. Don't get me wrong though, I've written a lot for the the Windows platform, I'm just more comfortable in Linux.

Not so much a bias towards Microsoft as a bias towards sanity. I find Linux to be more complicated and under developed as far as interfacing gos then it needs to be. Especially in today's age.

And i'm sure as hell not supporting Apple.

But back to the topic on hand, i'll look over everything when(/if) i get some time.

Yea, if you want to do something without much effort I'd suggest looking into PyGame.
