I saved a php file on my webserver. The webserver isn't running the php code, but instead it is displaying weird symbols.
I'm new to php and hosting a server. I'm running Gentoo Linux, and it's an Apache server. Is there any reason why that would happen?

php might not be installed, you have a bad mimetype loaded in a .htaccess file, Apache config is not setup properly, your script is trying to set the page content type to something like an image. I am sure there are other possible reasons.

What have you done so far in setting up the web server?
