If your just starting out, I'd say just use Notepad. You learn the most that way IMO.

Notepad++ might have VBScript recognition, but don't hold me to that. It's got a lot of languages supported. Notepad++.

i am starting out, and based on what i was told on my course ( its good practice) and requirements for the company i work for i need to use a dedicated editor, i just want to know what are the good ones out there before i get the company to make the purchase.

Notepad++ is free, and overall seemed to be a really quality editor. With a few modifications in Windows, you can have it replace Notepad COMPLETELY as a text editor. Simply open it up, start to write, Save As the appropriate language, and be done. It will syntax highlight anything it needs to, but I'm not sure it would fit in a company.
