Default Need Testers: Memory Address Usage

I wrote a quick program that shows how your memory addresses are being used. Basically, if you see only 2.8GB of RAM in a 32-bit OS, this will tell you where the rest of the 1.2GB of addresses went.

Sorry for the roundabout processes... I'm not familar enought with the OS APIs.

First, you need to create a text file printer: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308579
Quote:
How to Print to a Text File
Device Manager does not have a Save command available for you to save a report to a text file. To save a Device Manager report to a text file, you must install a generic, text-only printer, and then redirect the Device Manager report to this printer.

To print to a text file:
*Click Start, and then click Printers and Faxes.
*Click Add a Printer, and then choose the following options in the wizard:
*Click Local Printer.
*Click to clear the Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer check box.
*Click Use the Following Port, and then click FILE (Print to file).
*Click Generic in the Manufacturer box.
*Click Generic / Text Only in the Printers box.
*Name the printer.
*Click Do not share this printer.
*Click No when you are prompted to print a test page.

Then....
*Open up Device Manager.
*Select View from the menu bar
*Select "Resource by Type"
*Hit the Printer icon
*Select the text printer (created above) and hit Print
*Save as "c:/address.txt"
*Download and open the attached Excel spreadsheet
*Go open c:/address.txt
*Copy out everything from the file and paste it into Excel (paste into the first column).
*In Excel, select View ribbon
*Select Macro (on the left) and run "DeviceManagerToReadable"
*Copy the results and post them here.

File Type: xls DeviceManager.xls (33.0 KB, 5 views)
