Default Easiest language to start with?

Hey.
So what programming language is the easiest to start with and easy to move on to other languages? What I'm looking for is the best starter language
I've been searching the web but it's different from thread to thread, some say it's Python, some says it's Visual Basic and some say that you should just jump right into Java or C++.. I'll appreciate any answer, oh and please include why that language is the best to start with and maybe some websites with tutorials and stuff

C++ was the language I started with. If you want to learn java and C++ do C++ first, you learn lots of things for java in C++. I'd start with C++.

LUA. If you've ever played Garry's mod you'll understand what it is.

http://www.lua.org/

I started learning this last year and you can slowly starting working your way up to PHP, HTML, C# then to C++ or C.

If you don't wanna go LUA, you can start with C#.

C. Not C++, just good old plain C. It'll teach you the basics without having to worry about an oop rubbish. Also it's extremely powerfull and once you have a good grounding in C, it's stupidly easy to start using C++ since its pretty much just a huge extension of C. All of your C code and knowledge picked up will work with C++.

Having learn VB and sql in the past and now C#, I'd definatly recomend C#. I've been told that Java is a very good langauge to learn. For C# Licht has done a very good guide. I've often referenced it in addition to the books I've got on C#

I started with VB... its extremely easy and you can start making stupid programs within minutes. But if you want to start learning how to programmer with some powerful stuff I would probably jump into C of C#

it really is all on what you can understand, when i started i understood VB much easier and it clicked in my head alot faster than trying to understand C tutorials.

I'd say start with C++. I'd discourage learning with C# or VB because it's not portable off Microsoft windows but if you are ok with that. Why not.

Thanks for all the answers! I think I'll take C or Java, what's the major differences between those languages?

Well C is a structured programming language, C++ Is object oriented and some memory management is done for you, Java I really don't know much about. It's portable across any platform because its compiled into bytecode which doesn't access the processor directly, but rather is a low-level sort of machine code that is emulated by the processor. I think that memory management is even more automated than in C++.

Ok, I quit, someone who is a more proficient programmer and has more knowledge on the subject, please help this guy out.
