I like that idea also. I am sure we could get some decent rigs running with all the spare parts rolling around this place.
Just be kind of a big project to get organized.

Right now one of the options admin's considering is a PS3 cluster, simply because we can get more bang for the buck that way then a comparably priced PC.

I would definitely make a formal suggestion about the spare parts though, thats an interesting idea.

System: Linux exclusive? I think so.

I disagree. Putting together a few $500 pc' and use a kvm swith and any old crt will really own a 900ppd ps3 by a decent margin, what ppd do x2 rigs put out i can't remember but i know it's more than 900ppd

My 3600 X2 @ 2.7ghz does a SMP WU (in Windows) in around 38-40 hrs, and is worth 1750 I believe. So Just a bit faster than a PS3 @ 900ppd.

I am all for a PS3 cluster (don't have the $$ to contribute now though) but if you could get a few rigs going on Linux SMP for almost free too, why not.
