Thumbs up Overclock.net Community Folding Project

In order to celebrate our successes to date as well as beef up for the future, Overclock.net is organizing a community folding project.

The project will allow Overclock.net members to financially contribute to the project in order to continually add more power to the team. Contributors will be recognized on a page dedicated to the Community Folding Project.

To start off, Overclock.net will be putting forth $1,000. Members looking to contribute are more than welcome to do so in $50 increments.

Based on what the community wants, we will then purchase the folding machines and will run them under a community name. Images and maybe even a webcam will be setup so that you can see the power in action All electricity will be paid by Overclock.net.

So if you are interested in donating, please post your donation amount in this thread. If you have ideas as to what we should spend our money on, please keep them close. We will be asking for them shortly

Thanks,
admin

Another idea, and I know there are so many of them, but maybe a OCN Folding donaters blip image would be cool, something a little extra extra for those that gave!

1) The details really are: a) collect donations b) buy gear based on suggestions (looks like multiple "cheap" PS3s may give us best bang for our buck right now) c) Setup and start folding!

2) We will definitely consider adding a postbit image for those who contribute. It may actually be a "glowing" version of our current folding icon.

I imagine its being done, but I would suggest looking into the best bang for buck setup you could find. PS3's if I remember correctly turn out about 800 to 900 points a day. There may be a cheap computer that could do better then that for the same price. I'm not quite sure though. Nevertheless, excellent project admin, now people withouth the hardware or the desire to be an active folder can still contribute!

Since none of the computers have to have monitors or any add-ons (PS3's don't either I guess), it might be better to get (for expample) three cheap PC's with E2140's or E2100's overclocked to around 2.6Ghz to be safe, that would probably churn out more points than 2 PS3's for the same price.
