Thats what I thought also. Until they come up with a solution to that problem, I think the best bet would be to go with the quad and 8800. With this setup we can run one instance of SMP and the GPU2.

Another concern though. We were going to run linux to save money. What now?

I'm in agreement that we should drop the PS3's. I'm getting about 7,500 PPD from Q6600+8800GTS, but the problem then is having to buy Windows

They are suppose to get a GPU2 client in the works for linux... the question is when?!?

If we were to go with this setup then we wouldn't have a choice but to go with windows

The question is really value. If buying a cheap copy of XP Home or Vista Home Premium provides a good return on investment, it's well worth it.

It'll be interesting to see how GPU2 points shake out in the coming weeks, if/when a Linux version of the client comes out, and if/when a multi-GPU version of it is released.

I didn't even think about that. Maybe standford will get a linux version out before admin shows up again.

That's great deskjockey. The problem is that we don't know if that's the route to take just yet. We have to play the waiting game for a little bit. We are waiting to see it Stanford comes out with a Linux client for the GPU2.

Ok ladies and gentlemen, it's time we get this project up and running. Look's like we should ditch the quad/SMP plan and go for a GPU2 folding setup. Here is what I had in mind. Please give comments/concerns with this build. Please keep in mind that our budget is around $1400.

(1) MSI P6N diamond 680i Mobo
http://www.directcanada.com/products...anufacture=MSI -unavailable at DirectCanada
http://www.antonline.com/p_P6N%20DIAMOND-GP_312775.htm -$175.13 + $11.54 shipping
I would like to find a Canadian retailer if possible. (Deskjockey said he could help us out other wise)
(2) E2160 CPU
http://www.directcanada.com/products...ufacture=INTEL -$68.09 + $9.99 shipping
(3) 2GB OCZ 6400 RAM
http://www.directcanada.com/products...anufacture=OCZ -$30.65 + $9.99 shipping
(4) OCZ 500w PSU
http://www.directcanada.com/products...anufacture=OCZ -$57.75 + $9.99 shipping
(5) Gigabyte 8800GT video card (4)
http://www.directcanada.com/products...cture=GIGABYTE $184.87 x 4 = $739.48 + $9.99 shipping
(6) 80 GB H/D
http://www.directcanada.com/products...acture=WESTERN DIGITAL -$41.60 + $9.99 shipping
(7) Vista OEM
http://www.directcanada.com/products...ture=MICROSOFT -$126.21 + $9.99 shipping
(8) DVD ROM
http://www.directcanada.com/products...manufacture=LG -$17.28 + $9.99 shipping

Total so far = $1,337.66

This is what I have come up with so far. Without knowing exactly when we will purchase, we can't take advantage of sales or MIR's. We should also be fine with the stock H/S, no overclocking should be necessary. I believe that we should go caseless to save funds as well.

If wanted we could throw in a Lian Li mini Mobo tray.http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...ducts_id=20966
This would be an extra $22.50 + shipping, and we would have to find a Canadian retailer if possible. Personally I would just throw it on a wood tray and call it a day.
