1. So, are you saying that it does actually boot?

2. Have you tested each video card by themselves? Do they all individually appear functional? Is there a specific PCI-E port to use, or can you use any one of them at any time regardless of the amount of cards in use?

3. Have you tried booting three cards in different arrangements?

4. Could you try the boot with the EVGA cards from the first rig, and see what happens?

5. Is there a setting in the bios to enable use of all four slots? (Just curious, I've never owned a board like that. )

6. What kind of ram modules are you using in the system? Could ram compatibility issues be a culprit? Or possibly which ram slots are in use?

Honestly, I can assure you that you know WAY more about these systems than I do, but these would be my thoughts regarding troubleshooting the rig (after what you have already mentioned). Hope it helps!

(PS: Just found this thread a couple days ago, I think this is a great idea! I am glad people are on board with it. I wish I had something like either of these rigs to fold with...then I'd be raking in some serious WU's.)

Do you really think a different BIOS would not help? I would think it may, but could be wrong. Maybe someone could read up on specific ones and see if any features have ben added/modified. Just a thought.

(1) The rig boots fine. The rig will boot and recognize using one or two cards. I can put the cards in different slots, boots fine. It doesn't want to boot with 3 cards for 4 cards.

(2) I have tried all the cards and all the cards appear to be functioning fine.

(3) As long as I only use 2 cards, the rig will boot up with the cards in different PCI-e slots. For example: I can use slots 1 and 2, 1 and 4, 2 and 3, and 2 and 4. Once I add another card in any other slot, it's a no go.

(4) I could swap out the cards from the first rig, but I don't believe the cards are the problem. I don't see the advantage of shutting that rig down and swapping cards.

(5) I looked through the BIOS very carefully, I also looked through the manual. I couldn't find any settings that require you to enable or disable to allow four cards to work.

(6) The RAM is the other stick of a 1x1 pair of Gskill 6400 DDR2 kit. The other stick is currently in rig one working just fine. Since the rig boots and runs fine, I don't believe it is a RAM issue.

Thank you for helping, If you think of anything else, please post.

would raising the SB voltage help at all?

as the SB directly affects all the PCI/PCI-E slots.

correct me if I'm wrong please.

it doesn't seem to be anything wrong with any of te slots, maybe just adding more than two cards is just overloading what the SB can handle at stock volts.

Well, I will definately give it a try, although I didn't have to raise any voltages to get rig #1 working.

That looks like a bad board or bad cards if its not booting up with all 4. I would test it with two known working cards (when it boots) and an additional card. If that doesn't work then I would RMA the board and buy a new one. I bet there will be a 3rd machine that will be built in the future.

a few days of less than 8000 PPD doesn't seem too bad.

maybe gibson's house had a few circuit breakers pop or power outages.

not to mention 511 pt WUs.
