Default (NOW w/ PICS) APPLE G5 CASE: Project Rotten Apple *56k*

Project "Rotten Apple" VERSION 2

I am building my last Folding rig (#19). I wanted to make it different from the borg, so I decided to use my Mac G5 Case I had...

Main Components are a Asus Maximus, and a Q6600.

Project Log:

I dremel'd the back to install a lian-li motherboard holder. I wanted a Removable Tray so I can work on Upgrades easily:

For Safety, I covered the Jagged Edges with Window Gaskets from Home Depot:

Components for a simple Mounting System all found in Home Depot, a 6inch Aluminum Plate, with 10-32 Machine Screws and Wing-nuts to easily remove them by hand:

Drilled Holes for the Mounting Screws:

Mounted on the Case:

Inside Look: So to Pull the Mobo Tray out, I just unscrew the wing nuts !

Just need to repeat on the bottom:

I am going to SanFran this week (3/31) I will update soon.

=============================================
=============================================

Project Rotten Apple (ORIGINAL)
I am awaiting the arrival of an Apple Macpro G5 Case.

My **tentative** plan is to have it painted in black inside and out. 2nd plan is to have it painted black outside and red inside, with all my components painted red to match (like the psu and tt cover) and keep my red Abit FPIN9 mobo and slap a red 2900XT in there, and aquire red Mushkins for example.

I am undecided yet if I want to move my Watercooled PC or my HTPC into it. I have to measure and see if I can fit a Thermochill 120.3 Radiator inside the Mac Case, if not, my HTPC is going into it instead.

Any suggestions?

**************

SO IT BEGINS:

**************
0. Purchased the ATI RADEON 2900XT

1. Massacred an old Cheap Case for its guts.

2. Removed all OLD standoffs

3. Prep old mobo holder from old case for allignment

4. Aligning to Macpro Case

5. Secured Card

6. Attached Mobo Holder to Macpro Side Panel + Looking to see where PSU is going

7. Installing / Aligning CD + Modding CD Holder

8. First attempt on HD holder

9. Added PSU, Connected Wirring for test run:

10. With Air Baffle On

I like that mod! Looks neat. That will look sweet with the case painted black.

G5 case arrived yesterday and its a beauty. Wow. I am thinking of placing the Thermochill 120.3 Radiator at the bottom of the case, with the fans pulling air into the case. Is it ok to have the rad at the lowest point of the loop?

Straight out of the UPS Box pics, its dusty and needs some cleaning up but it sure is a NICE CASE. I am thinking of keeping it in silver:

Nope, there will no problem at what-so-ever. You may want to make sure to have dust filters on the intake though.

To answer most of your questions: (1) a fridge cannot cool a PC (2) 64-bit OS for over 3.4GB (3) If a PCIe card fits, it should work (4) Resolution, not screen size (5) If you have a question, it is not news (6) Report, not respond to Spam (7) Single-Rail/Non-Modular PSUs are not always better than Multi-Rail/Modular

Yeah it wouldn't hurt...I would leave the tubing a little overlong so you can move it around and shake it some to get all the air bubbles out....I like to keep my res at the highest point so it will bleed fast....
