Default Thermaltake Soprano airflow...

Hello all,

I'm looking at buying 5 of Kopi's Vantec Tornado fans (92x92x38) for my Thermaltake Soprano case. The case fans I have now are 80mm ones that I took out of old PSUs and a 120 exhaust that came with the case. Airflow is ok, but I want better airflow inside the case for when I start overclocking the CPU. The fans will flow 119 cfm - I know they're loud, but I'm willing to put up with that.

I will have one on the intake at full speed and one on the exhaust at full speed. I will have one on the side of my case as an intake and the other two will be as a push/pull configuration on my CPU cooler (Arctic Freezer 7).

My questions are these:

1. With 2 on the Freezer, will this create too much turbulence inside the case?

2. If it does create too much turbulence, am I better off leaving the side of the case alone, and just keeping the vents there (without a fan)? I figure since the intake fan has a screen and the case blocking it, it would cut some of that airflow. If the intake fans didn't provide enough incoming air, would the CPU fans then suck air from the side vents?

I guess the whole "side window" thing still throws me off. I thought that an intake fan in front and an exhaust fan in back made air move through the case - kind of like the scavenging effect inside of an engine's exhaust manifold - get the air moving, and the scavenging effect will keep it moving. Any help is appreciated

Bleh...where to start...I had this case before my 900 and I have to say it has really bad airflow. Don't bother putting a side fan on as it will do absolutely nothing other than make noise. I put one on and no difference in temps at all (intake or exhaust, nothing). Also, I really suggest leaving the side panel off if you want good temps...With it off, I was getting a difference of up to 4c in idle temps

I have asked multiple times about increasing airflow in this case...you can read my topic here (even though it probably won't help you at all, it may give you some ideas):

Also my build log here (scroll down to post #2 for my soprano):

Ok, thanks for the help. That sucks about the case - I should've read more about it before I bought it. Looks like I'll be finding another case this summer!! +rep
