Default System slower after getting a case?

Ever since I got my CM 690, my system has been slower. I mean, it was previously caseless.

I still had the e2180 when I got this case.

The first thing I noticed is that immediately after POST (after verifying pool data), there appeared this new black and white progress bar at the bottom, which looks exactly like the one you see when Windows "Resumes" out of hibernation.

The start up time was increased by a few seconds, and the "Loading your personal settings" stayed up longer too. Previously, it just flashed on the screen for literally a few milliseconds, but now it stays up for over 2 seconds. When the e2180 was at stock, this little box would stay up for over 3 seconds. When I overclocked it to 2.95GHz, it just flashed, as I described.

Then came the E8400. I thought for sure I'd notice a big jump in speed. I mean, I did, but not in some areas that I expected. For example, it didn't seem to decrease the time that the "Loading your personal settings" window is displayed, but it did seem to increase the load time of that mysterious black and white progress bar.

So, I'm simply wondering what I'm waiting for. I mean, I didn't think a case could slow down my system.

The point of all this for me is to learn. I'm not trying to complain or look for a solution.

I appreciate any replies that will shed some light on this. Thank you.

If you go into your "Advanced BIOS Features," disable any devices you aren't using to increase bootup times. For example, I'm only using a CD-ROM drive and HDD, so I'll make my CD-ROM drive the First Boot Device and HDD as my Second Boot Device, and then disable the rest. I hope that solves your problem.

I've already done that (did that before I got the case, on the first day I set the system up). This thing is 100% sleek in this respect.

That's interesting you said that, because I had to reverse the positive and negative for both the power LED and HDD LED front panel connector. With it "correctly" connected, the power led would only be on when the system is off, and the power LED would turn OFF after turning the system ON.

But when I corrected the power led hookup, the HDD LED stopped working. So, I flipped that, but it didn't make any difference. So, I flipped them both and it worked. I wonder if that's it.
