Default How do you test for shorts?

My old (1 yr old) case won't allow any system to startup in it... the fans spin for 3 seconds, it lights up for 1\2 a second, then it dies. I think it has a short, but I dont know where. I took the case apart and I didn't discover anything obvious, so I was wondering how exactly I can test for shorts... rep+ for help :@

first off you need a multimeter, and i guess if i were to test for shorts it would be between ground and all the main atx connector on the mobo. . One lead goes to the case and then the other lead you probe with, obviously only the real ground pins should ring out and the 12v and 5v and such probably shouldnt. hpe this helps abit, dunno your exp with a multimeter.

install everything inside the case except fot the psu. short in psu could cause case to become energized subsequently leading to issues. also check for proper grounding of power outlet.
