Question Bigger case = less heat?

Hello,

My Antec Sonata III is giving me grief with heat. I'm getting 35C case temps along with my E6850 @ 3.0Ghz with Tuniq 120 at 55C load.

I think the issue is that my Antec case doesn't have much room inside. I have 4 x 120mm fans installed, along with 2 x 60mm fans.

Am I right in thinking that a larger case runs much cooler? I'm thinking of a full tower possibly, or a larger gaming style case.

Thanks

I had an Ultra Aluminus and thats a full tower and my temps were no better than my CM 690's..I would try cleaning up the wires frist. That can help a lot.

imo bigger case isnt always better. if u move from a mid tower to a full tower without any change of fans, u may get even more heat. its just a butt to get good airflow in a big case.

Very true; in a huge case with horrible airflow the temps will probably be higher than in a tiny case with outstanding airflow.

Cable management and fan arrangement will drop your temps regardless of the case you're using.

Sure, here's a pic:

Could the Du-Orb VGA cooler be causing issues by blowing air in pretty much all directions?

Please excuse the ghetto-mod on my Tuniq. To be honest it doesn't make a huge difference to the temps with or without. I was just trying something out.

The case doesn't really allow anything bigger than a 60mm (maybe 80mm) fan to be placed right at the front of the case.

This is an official picture of the case from the side:

I dunno why you NEED the ghetto mod . Anyhow, you may want to confirm that the fans are indeed blowing the directions that you indicated. The duo orb should not be a problem, and your airflow doesn't look half bad. The cables aren't pristine, but they'll do unless you want to do some cable modding. I don't think a new case would be the best bet. I would get rid of the extra fans off the tuniq, and just use the one in the middle of it. You could also clean up the wires in around your HDD's as I'm sure they are blocking some of the air flow from the front of the case.

EDIT: I also just realized that your computer seems to be on, yet the fan in the back isnt spinning....why is that? Did you really just use a fast enough shutter speed on the camera to make it look stopped?

Yeah its a new camera... haven't figured out how to use it properly yet

The fan IS actually spinning.

What annoys me is that you always get someone who has the same CPU and HSF and they get 10C lower CPU temps! I never understand it. Its like I'm always burdened with crap CPU temps.
