Replace carpet with hardware floors.
Shave your head and all body hair.. If you have any pets...shave them too.

Not cheap but do work. Me I use swiffer dusters and vacuum often. Your air conditioner filter will take out some dust (and should be cleaned often). I too have been thinking about investing in an air cleaner.

Keep floor vacuumed regularly, keep dirty laundry off floor and washed, keep clean sheets and wash blanket regularly, keep shelves, cd racks, TV, etc. dusted regularly. If you have an air conditoner, change filter regularly. I dunno, this is what I've made a habit out of, and it seems to keep dust at a minimum. Oh, also, if you have a ceiling fan, keep the blades clean on a regular basis.

I was having problems with dust too, so.. I added an air filter to the vent in my room, make sure the main filter for the entire air conditioning unit is clean.. have some swiffer dusters and sweep my hardwood floors relatively often.
__________________One thing that really helped a lot, and I feel is gonna help when winter comes (I have winter allergies not summer, don't even know why.) was an Ionic Breeze Air Purifier. That thing prompts me to clean it like once a week and it has a ton of stuff stuck to it. They're kinda expensive but I got it from my friend who never used hers, and it helps. Keep an eye out for any you might see cheap like at a yard sale. Good luck with your dust issues, i'm working on mine too. ![]()

if you live in a place with acceptable temps/humidity, open the window! Putting a fan there would make a huge difference. Humans weren't made to live in enclosed spaces for long times! (except engineers..)
Make sure you use a wet cloth to capture dust when you dust, doesn't help to spread it around. If you really want to get ingenious, you could build a waterfall mister to collect dust... or a vandigraff which charges a plastic wall to collect dust.. heh.
