Did my first case mod today. I rearranged my drive bay covers and bolted a fan to the top of the grill. I basically drilled through the mesh and then attached the fan using 2" bolts and some spacers to keep it from hitting the front filter.

I also installed two fans on the top and a fan controller. The fan controller is the only part I don't like as it doesn't quite fit my case, I'll replace it with a better one later.

I took the opportunity to redo my cable management. I found some round SATA cables and replaced the flat ones, much easier to route and manage them now. I'm fairly happy with how it has come out, let me know what you think.

Mine's in pieces, drying in my garage.

Shame, as I painted it, I discovered that another member apparently had the same idea for color scheme as I. Oh well, at least everyone liked his, so I must be on the right track! :P

I would have never thought to have done this. Good idea on the spacing as the fan would suck in that foam filter eventually, after the dust piles into it. Glad to see you here. Any big future plans?

Glad you like it.

I'm planning on upgrading the PSU and getting a C2Q 9550. Definitely want to replace the fan controller with one that doesn't stick out a half inch.

I also want to find a better way to attach the filters I'm using. Right now the one on the side is just velcro and the one on top is bolted on with the fans. Because of this, I can't tighten the screws any more or the fans hit it.

I know its been done a dozen times in the thread already, but I was also thinking of painting the inside black. It just looks so badass.

You can redrill holes for the controller so its more inset. But buying anew is another computer high we suffer from.
I have one of the metal mesh filters that leaves a gap between the fan and the case too, it doesnt bother me so much and theyre now ziptied to the case. Did you want to join?

Sure, I'd like to join.
Btw, the filters I'm talking about are the ones i installed on the top and sides of my case.
I used electro-static filter mesh to make a thin, but effective filter for all my intakes.
I have a sheet of it covering the two fan grills on the inside, between the case and the fans.
I also installed one on the outside of the case, covering the PSU intake. That one is attached with velcro.

Alright, here's a quick preview of what I've been working on this week...

BEFORE

AFTER

As you may or may not notice, it's not near complete. I'm also eagerly awaiting the restocking of the 5870s on Newegg. I need a pair. :3
