I have 2 front USB connections on this case, and I was just connecting my iphone to sync with itunes, and WHAM...saw a tiny spark, and the computer restarted...
__________________This happened a few times every time i try and connect any usb cable to that port (also tried another cable, the one that came with my portable hdd)...the other USB port seems to be fine...what should I look for inside the case/connections to mobo to see why this is happening? Or, just to be safe, should I just disconnect the front USB ports and use the ones directly to the mobo? Thanks!

Its probably best not to use the ports.
I personally have 2 USB ports on the front of my case that do this. I can avoid the short circuit by lifting my feet from the ground, touching both my hand and the USB connector to a metal part of the case to get rid of the charge, then plug in. never failed me yet.

Look inside the case, and check at the top, by the 200mm fan. There should be a black wire connected to the roof of the case. This effectively grounds the front i/o ports. If not, disconnect them and speak to Antec about an RMA.

I have the identical problem with this case. Thanks for the suggestion to check for a grounding wire. I will check that this evening and post back what I have found. I have to imagine this cannot be good for the mobo after a while.

I verified the little black wire is there. I'm going to do some testing this weekend to add my own ground to see if that solves the problem. What I might do is run a ground wire straight to the outlet and wedge connect it directly to the outer shielding of each connector. If that solves it, then we have something to talk to Antec about. If it doesn't, it may not be the case causing it, but based on this forum, a few others, and the reviews on NewEgg it looks like the case is indeed the cause of this problem.

I connected a grounding wire directly from the shielding on the front ports to the ground in a nearby outlet. I zapped a USB port on the back of the motherboard (using an extension) and zapped the USB ports on the front of the 902. Even with the outer shroud connected directly to ground the front USB ports cause the computer to instantly reset.
I will be contacting Antec to understand how they want to resolve this problem. Cheers, Scott |
