Default Build Log: Venom (NZXT Tempest)

Hey guys, if you are reading this, thanks for visiting my Build Log. I think this is the right place to post it, if not, could a mod move it? Thanks.

Now that I got that out of the way...

The name of this project from hence-forth will be known as Venom. Venom (the project) is very special to me, as it's my first custom computer. I have worked at my school for years fixing machines, so I always knew how to build computers, and how they worked. The problem was money. I found a job last summer working at my school, and really didn't spend any money (occasional NewEgg purchases, dates, etc.) I had built computers for clients, but not for myself. I couldn't justify an i7 at the time (a few months ago), because I do not do a lot of encoding (yet). So I went for a Q9550+UD3P combination (a great one of you ask me. I think I will be still rocking this setup in 2010!) The initial purchase cost me about $980. The specs are in my sig.

Update 1

This is the first update of Venom. I didn't do any other mods except for drilling a hole for the 12v in the mobo tray.

Here are the pictures.

The only really special thing about this update is cable management. That corsair you see is a 400W. That brings up my next point: Do not get a weak PSU!! I tried an online PSU calculator, and it told me that 400W would suffice, well I found out the hard way that it would not, especially when folding. I could not turn the cathodes on, because it would cause the computer to reset Fortunately that was replaced by a 650TX.

That's all for this update, more to come!

Hey guys, where here it is...

Update 2

Update 2 is significant to me, because it is the first time I ever modded a case with a dremel, or spray painted it. I think it came out very well for my first time. I cut 3 major cable management holes- 2 near the drive bays, and a 12v in the mobo tray.

Drive cage

I really didn't do a good job on the back. I used it for getting the spray started.

The hole for the PSU so I can mount it upside down. Painter's tape not yet removed.

PSU-hole with the tape removed.

The black looks so much better than that ugly gray. Tomorrow, I will put the parts back in, and post update 3. As always, comments, suggestions, questions, and rep are welcome!

Yeah, I didn't get a lot of pics of update 1, so I just did both at the same time. Glad you like it

Im gonna let it dry out fully tonight, and then re-loading the parts back into the case. It was a pain, but the black paint job was so worth it.

Oh, god...

Nice work!

+

I want to see more updates with a finished system!

If I may intrude... I recommend getting some u-channel for the holes that you've cut, it makes it look sooo much cleaner, but it still looks good like it is.

You've got a very even, clean paint job for a first timer. I recommend a can of clearcoat to protect the paint against chipping/scratches if you want to prolong the life of the mod.
