I'm looking at building a gaming computer,
but I live in a dorm room and have limited space. Soooooo.....to save space...why not put it on a very underused space - the wall! I'm looking at mounting on plywood using some kind of tubing as spacers and bolts to mount it to the plywood. I'm going to watercool the system for simplicity - and overclocking. Plus, just because I can, I am going to set up a "switch board" for mounting all my switches, also double it as my desktop power supply for my circuit projects. Well back to my question...what kind of problems do you think might come with mounting my system like this?

I think it would work, but stick to air, unless you got a nice plan on mounting your res and rad and such. Just be careful when bolting the mobo in. How are you mounting the PSU? How are you supporting the GFX card? I think it would be a lot easier if you got some ply, a stud finder, a level, and some angle brackets, such as these: http://www.premierwood.com/images/steel-brackets.jpg.Use them to make a shelf, and set your computer parts up there. You can bolt down the mobo if you are worried about it falling. You could also wedge a small 1x3" piece of wood under the graphics card to support it. Happy mounting! And if you do it, post pics. EDIT: And I do not mean to be rude regarding the WCing. But seriously, stick to air.

Wait so, your mounting the components on the wall, not in a case?

It's actually perfectly fine, but you HAVE to drill into at least 2 studs. Preferably more (3+)

What Raptor_Jesus said. Stick to decent quality air cooling, unless you have a good plan for how to do the watercooling. I don't see a problem with the actual mounting. I'd mount the whole lot on the plywood (mobo, hdd, the lot) then mount that plywood to the wall. Or hang it off the ceiling (This has been done). As for using the psu to power your "projects", I would advise against that. You could introduce ripple on some/all the rails by plugging stuff into 12V while the system is on, and that would be bad.

^ Exactly. Use a separate PSU to power your projects. Trust me. You don't want to short out your PSU, and risk damaging your hardware!

If you do go air cooling, and get something like a megahalem, that motherboard better be secure

I would find a motherboard tray from an old case and mount that to the ply rather than mounting the mb directly to the wood. I don't know if that was your plan or not.
The watercooling seems like a major headache but definitely could be done. Air-cooling would make it a lot easier, though. As mentioned earler, you will have to devise a way to support your video card. Will the PSU be mounted on the wall as well? If so it will need some kind of shelf which could have some sort of supports attached for the video card.
