hi,well i've been rendering a map for a friend since yesterday(still going now),and through out this time my case has been sounding like an aeroplane and its really starting to annoy me
__________________ ,it has 2x92m intakes 1x92mm outtake and i rigged up an extra intake in the floppy bay, even with the intakes on the lowest setting i can still hear my pc down stairs!(i do think that most of the sound is coming from the fan on my 6800,but can't be sure) i've looked at a few cases (mainly antec) and i've looked at sound damping, but does sound damping really work? i've read a few reviews on some of it and it doesn't exactly scream "buy it,and your pc will be silent" but the antec p180 looks the better option (and i've found the spcr version ),but i don't want to shell out for a case and find it makes no difference, same goes for sound damping kitsi really need some opinions on this from anyone who has a p180 (or even a sonta) ,or anyone who has tried a sound damping kit..many thanks ![]()

I can assure you that the Antec P180 SPCR is about as silent a case your going to get for a reasonable price.
The panels are made from 3 ply plastic/aluminium to absorb sound and as such even with a couple of vantec tornado fans in there is is much quieter than "standard" cases. Also worth looking at are the Antec Sonata range as well as they are acustically engineered. Sound dampening kits work very well if you intend in installing it in a case with a window for instance but for true quietness its better to go with a purpose built case like the P180 Hope that helps ![]()

Maybe just try taking out your fans, or get a fan controller and only use an exhaust fan.
Depending on your OC you really dont need 3 case fans, unless you live in a sauna. Try a fan controller, that way its only loud when you game at whcih point you should have headphones on anyways! My setup i have now is silent as crap when im surfing the net or just idling, but does a great cooling job when gaming. Side ports ARE A WONDER when it comes to great cooling, they will help more than you can ever imagine.

the p180 spcr is the case that i really want to get,as its silent and looks the dogs bo**ocks, the best price i can find is £105 with shipping, only fear they'll sell out before i can get the cash together ,sound damping would be ok if i knew it would work, and if i buy it find it doesn't help..it's £15-20 down the drain ![]()

It does work its just not as effective as a purpose built tower.
I am very sensitive to the sounds of fans esp. the pitch of them. Most cases have a natural resonance which can be quite intrusive if you have the same problem. The P180's are big cases but i cannot stress enough how good they are. i have 2-3 friends who use them and never shut up about the peace they get. If you have silenced the fans as well in your system as possible and the noise is still irritating it would be worth getting the Antec case. Oh and they do look COOL

![]() The sound deadening packs are designed to help reduce that said problem. The second thing it could also be is air turbulance within the case. If the path of the air is deflected or competing with another fan you will get a vortex effect which causes extra sound. Hope that helps

well i've take what both you guys have said in to account and removed all un-nesscery fans, im now idlng at 36C where as before i was around 33C (and it seem to be climbing
__________________ ),which i think is ok (correct me if im wrong),and the sound level is acceptable and there is no hum,so i might try a sound damping kit for now, thanks for the help![]() only worry part is if i use one of those kits,my temps will go up more,i haven't overclocked (although i plan to when i learn abit more),and i no this is off topic but whats the most my chip can take at full load?

3700+ SD's tend to overclock to aroud 2.8-3Ghz but you should keep the temps under 55-60*C tho.

Hah ya man the 6800gs fan is a little annoying. So what you do is download Riva Tuner, it has a Video card fan controller!!!!! OMG i remember how i wanted to die when i heard my old GS fan on low, it was SOOO much quieter.
you can set the fans to turn on high when a 3d app. starts using that program. Plus you can overclock your card, monitor temps, etc. RIVATUNER LINK!
