booting window from DVD RW (SATA) connector??
i dunno if this is the right section, if its not feel free to move it
 I reformated my harddrive and am trying to reinstall fresh window. The problem is that i cant boot my window from DVD R/W drive (SATA connector). is it because you cant boot from a drive that has SATA connector? only bootable with DVD drive that has IDE connector?? thnx guys

If the south bridge controls the SATA, most have native support in XP SP2.
Check the BIOS for bootable drives, see if the DVD drive shows up there.

it did show up
EDIT its with ASUS A8N SLI deluxe mobo not the one i have rite now thnx

I was generalizing. If it shows up as bootable, it should support booting from that drive. Did you try setting it to the first boot device?

Ouch, a device showing in the bootable drives section should work.
You may have to set "Removable Device" to first boot device, SATA are seen as removable. If that don't do it I'm out of options

Opps, just found a new issue!
You may have to upgrade the firmware of the SATA DVD so that it will recognizes the nVidia chip set! I'm guessing it's a Plextor, check there web sight for info on that!

It should work with XP SP2 due to the native SATA support for south bridges, provided the drive is a recognized bootable device.
