I have owned 3 MX518's in the last two years and was solidly convinced that it would take a minor miracle to get me to keep something different.
For the record, I have tried 2 different razer models, the Logitech G5 (old version), the new logitech G9, the logitech MX300, logitech mx500 and the microsoft habu. I had a variety of issues with all of them (other than the mx500 and it was only lacking features that the mx518 had). When I tried the original Logitech G5, I returned it within 2 days. It was inaccurate, the mouse wheel was too high and did not have smooth travel, and it skipped occasionally (supposedly fixed by a later firmware update). Logitech was very much aware of this and without any fanfare released a second revision of the G5. It has the same model number (although a different logitech part number). Improvements of the original G5 include, higher USB poll rate, a new laser head (no more skipping) and a textured anti-slip surface. Also they moved the dpi on the fly switches together behind the mouse wheel and added a digital counter on the mouse showing what level it is set at. Turns out its a pretty amazing mouse. What separates it from my beloved MX518? MX518: 1600 DPI G5 II: 2000 DPI MX518: 125 Mhz USB Poll Rate G5 II: 1000 Mhz USB Poll Rate (adjustable in software) G5: Weights, textured surface, much larger tetrafluorolene feet, Braided non stick cord (this is a nice feature) Regarding the mouse wheel, I still find it too high but they have smoothed out the rolling motion. Still not a fan of the tilt wheel feature in games but I can live with it. Regarding accuracy, with the new super size feet, higher DPI and insanely higher USB Poll rate, this one is a keeper.

You could also O.C. your mouse polling rate, see also that section of my tweak guide. I use an MX Revolution, and it is the best wireless gaming mouse I have ever owned.

Think of DPI as nothing more than a "sensitivity multiplier." 400DPI @ 7sens = 800DPI @ 3.5sens = 1600DPI @ 1.75sens. Try it. It'll feel exactly the same.
Anyway, as of this article, the MX518 is the best mouse. Check it out; it's a mouse benchmark. Yes, it's a benchmark, meaning numbers, not a review where they merely report "feelings" on the product. A very good read, indeed. http://www.esreality.com/?a=post&id=1265679

I totally agree that you got the best mouse, wired.... I just prefer wireless.. hence the MX Revolution, which pissed me off by dropping $20 three weeks after I dropped $100 on it

I had my 518 for 3 years, it was great. I never was interested in any Razer products until the DeathAdder. After using it for a week I'm never going back.

The poll rate is 125mhz. ES Reality (I linked the article) trying usb port overclocking on it without success.
__________________The MX500 btw was rated #1 by them because you could overclock the living daylights out of its poll rate. I'm fairly surprised/pleased with the improvement of this mouse over the original G5 (which I couldn't stand).
