Default SATA or IDE dvd/cd burner drive?

Hello everyone...

I have read up on the difference between SATA and IDE and theres no difference other than the connection type. or so i believe but two weeks ago i purchased a SATA dvd/cd combo drive by emprex. it burners dvds up to 20x and i have an older IDE sony 18x dvd drive. i thought i would put it up to the test and rip and burn a dvd movie using DVDFav and the sata drive did it 10 minutes faster. to me thats a big difference. so my question is should i keep my sony IDE drive or replace it with another SATA by emprex which is on sale at my local frys for 19.99 or save the money?

Wow, that's a big difference. For the price it's a great buy, I don't see why you shouldn't get it if you have the money and want the performance. The only reason I buy SATA drives is because they don't mess up air flow as much as IDE. Plus you can have more.

For $20....might as well get the SATA drive if you can . They're well worth it. Not only the speeds, but you get rid of those UGLY IDE cables, and SATA cables are MUCH easier to hide well .
