I have a this mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131172
__________________and I want to know if a PCIe x16 2.0 card will work with it? So the basic question is a 2.0 card backwards capatiable with the orginal mobo's?

Yes PCI-E 2.0 is backwards compatible.

pcie2 is still way more bandwidth than we need, yet.
anybody found any bench results that show 2 gives more than 1?

![]() PCIe 2.0 doubles the bus standard's bandwidth from 2.5 Gbit/s to 5 Gbit/s, meaning a x32 connector can transfer data at up to 16 GB/s in each direction. PCIe 2.0 is completely backwards compatible with PCIe v1.x. Graphic cards and motherboards designed for v2.0 will be able to work with v1.1 and v1.0, and vice versa.

There was a recent benchmark between the P45 and X38/48 motherboards. There was up to 15% performance differences during CrossFire. While this doesn't make that much of an impact, when you only have a few FPS at high resolutions, there will be a noticeable difference between the two slot types.
