Default Mouse settings - which one is better?

Technical question here.

Just curious as to which of these two settings gives you a higher level of precision:

1600 on-board mouse dpi and the middle (sixth) notch in Windows XP mouse control panel.

Or

2000 on-board mouse dpi and the fifth notch in Windows XP mouse control panel.

I've read the popular CS mouse optimization guide that was posted on these forums where the author states that lowering the control panel mouse sensitivity might be worse than raising it, but if you go to page 5 of the comments thread a poster states that the author was incorrect and discovered later that lowering the sensitivity this way doesn't do anything.

I'm thinking running your mouse at it's maximum dpi and tempering the speed by lowering control panel sensitivity would give you the maximum possible precision with your mouse. Anybody found this out to be true?

Wouldn't this really come down to personal preference? I mean I cant tell you what works for you and your play style. You just need to try it out and see which you preferred.
